What is the Playstation Experience?
PlayStation Experience, also known as PSX, is an annual event for the video game industry presented by Sony and it is used to showcase PlayStation games and game-related merchandise. The event is open to the public and showcases various panels and many unreleased games, with playable demos. The second PlayStation Experience event was held at Moscone Center in San Francisco, California from December 5–6, 2015
What is it like?
This past weekend, I attended my first Playstation Experience. The 2-day event took place in downtown San Francisco and is their second one so far (the first was in Las Vegas). I was only able to make it out to one of the days but tried my best to take in what I could. Some attendees were camped outside of Moscone West since the night before (I’m having flashbacks of SDCC just thinking about it *shudder*). Badge pick-up was a breeze when I arrived, and I also got my swag bag immediately along with it. Sah-weet! It was a bit of a wait to get up to the 3rd floor of the venue as they were filing people in for the keynote. Luckily I was able to get in before it started and snagged a good seat thanks to my buddy Benedict.
Highlights of PlayStation Experience
The highlights of the keynote for me were seeing footage from Uncharted 4, Street Fighter V, and last but definitely not the least, Final Fantasy VII remake. After a little more than an hour into it, we decided to head out and onto the floor and got downstairs just in time for opening. There were several parts of the show floor where attendees could scan their badges, which contained an RFID chip. Scanning the badge earns points which could later be redeemed for awards depending on what tasks you check off the event’s to-do list.
Unfortunately for me, the app was on the fritz for the time that I was there, so I wasn’t able to see what rewards I earned until just a few minutes before I started writing this post (boo). As for actual gameplay during the event, I was only able to try out a few of the indie games (Guns Up! and Kill Strain). The more popular titles were located on the 2nd floor and were well occupied. Despite my short time here, I had a blast. It left enough of a great first impression that I went ahead and purchased a PS4 the next day. Gotta catch up with the Uncharted series before the latest one releases, ya know!
Other games that were showcased were Destiny, Ace combat 7, MLB the show, Hitman go, Eagle Flight, Yakuza 0, Yakuza 5, Paragon, Nioh, Battleborn, and many many many more!
Even Day of the Tentacle made an appearance. The old-school Manic Mansion franchise game. Too much fun!
Did you attend the Playstation Experience? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
