Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook Review

It’s Pizza Time!

 Benedict Corpuz

A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook makes perfect sense. Why hasn’t anyone thought of doing this book from 1990 until now? Let’s get to theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook Review.

There are many of us TMNT fans that love pizza and we’ve seen the turtles eat all sorts of crazy concoctions in the cartoons and movies, but dare we try them? I think we will now. This TMNT Pizza cookbook is packed with pizza recipes and more.

Any good cookbook starts you off with the basics. This TMNT Pizza Cookbook tells you what kind of basic ingredients, essential tools, and even secret weapons that one may need. The cookbook also starts off with Healthy Swaps and cooking tips. Many of these are good to know before you get into following the recipes outlined in this book for a healthier version of what you want to cook.

Pizza Dough in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook Review

Pizza starts with the dough, so this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook starts with different recipes for dough. There’s an Overnight Dough, Whole-Wheat Dough, and a One-Hour Pizza Dough. I’ve already tried different doughs in my endeavor to create pizza, but I am welcome to learning new ones. A one-hour dough would be most convenient as many of the recipes I have used before called for a couple of hours to multiple days of rising.

Pizza Sauce

The sauce comes next and this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook gives you several options. There’s a No-Cook Pizza Sauce, A New York-Style Pizza Sauce, White Pizza Sauce, Olive Tapenade, and Any-Herb Pesto. There are even bonus recipes for Caramelized Onions and Roasted Garlic if you want to add those to your sauces as well. The variety of sauces give you the basics to create many types of pizza.

Pizza Pies

The pizza section includes Old School Pizzas and New School Pizzas. Old school pizzas include classics like New York-Style Pepperoni, Four-Cheese for Four Bros, Ralph’s Rude ‘Shrooms, and Veggie Victory. The old-school recipes look pretty good, but let’s see some turtle creations with the New School Pizzas. These are more like some of the crazy creations that we may have seen in the cartoons. There’s Holy Guacamole, The BLT, Total Tuna Meltdown, Crazy Corn and Bodacious Bean, Mighty Meatball and Sauerkraut, The Mac Attack, and more! Many of these sound pretty crazy, but I can see how they would definitely taste delicious.

Non-Pizza

Masked Mutations showcases non-pizza food that could be enjoyed by our masked heroes and fans alike. There are Pizza Potstickers, Master Splinter’s Spinach Calzones, Pizza Ramen Soup, Green Ooze smoothie, Pest Pizza Pockets and more. I think I am most excited about trying to make items in this section. When I saw Pizza Ramen being made for the Turtles in Nick’s version of the show recently, I was pretty intrigued. Now I have an official recipe to try out.

Desserts

Meals aren’t complete without dessert. There are plenty of dessert recipes offered that include Casey’s Cookies, Donnie’s Choc-tato Chip Experiment, Nice Cream Pizza, and Dojo delight. There is a nice variety of dessert recipes that include beverages, pastries, and dessert pizza.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Cookbook Recipes

There are a surprising number of recipes in this book. There is such a great variety of food to cook, that whole meals can be created from different recipes in this book. All of the recipes are very easy to follow and use simple ingredients. Everything can be bought from your local grocery store. The recipes are simple enough to have children follow along as well.

The first recipes I decided to try were the One-Hour Pizza Dough and No-Cook Pizza Sauce. The One-Hour pizza dough recipe was enough to create dough for two 14-inch pizzas. I had some dough to keep in the fridge for later. Rather than going for one of the pizza recipes, I opted to just work with the dough and sauce for now. Perfecting the dough and sauce first will make future pizza that much better.

Making Pizza

I took one 8 oz package of shredded mozzarella cheese to top the sauce for a regular cheese pizza. I also decided to make the New York Style Pizza sauce at the same time for use the next day with the other dough ball. Prep for this was pretty much similar to the No-Cook sauce so I made some at the same time for use later on. The New York Style pizza calls for a couple of extra ingredients plus cooking so it was very easy to create both sauces.

The One-Hour dough and No-Cook Sauce tasted delicious and the crust came out perfect. In my experience, the other dough sitting in the fridge might turn out even better. I’ll give that one a whirl and try to post an update.
