Down the Rabbit Hole Review Gameplay
Down the Rabbit Hole is a magical and immersive VR game that transports players into the mysterious and fantastical world of Wonderland. From the moment you put on the headset, you are immediately transported into the game’s stunning and surreal environment.
Down the Rabbit Hole Controls
Down the Rabbit hole’s controls are kind of unique. You will see various rooms and scenes in front of you, and kind of like looking into a doll house, you can watch how things play out and interact with the items in them.
There are also various root systems located on the edge of the rooms that allow you to grab onto them and turn yourself, or pull you in and out of things. Although you technically play this game in a 3rd person view, you can really zoom in and get a first-person perspective. Some puzzle scenes will do this automatically for you.
The character is controlled by using the joystick for movement.
Although it sounds a bit complicated, it actually makes for truly delightful gameplay and utilizes controls that most users will immediately be able to understand and get behind, with any risk of motion sickness.
VR Puzzles Everywhere
As you explore the game, you will encounter various challenges and puzzles that will keep you thinking without being too complicated. These puzzles will usually require you to look around the rooms in front of you to figure out what you need to do to solve the experience.
There are also several multiple-choice card selections that you will come across. These are just fun little additions to making the story more interesting.
You will also have the option to choose from a few multiple-choice dialog options as you meet various colorful Wonderland characters. Unfortunately, these don’t seem to really impact the story or anything that happens, but it is a nice touch to add some character/story development.
Besides the puzzles and character dialog is the ongoing collectible quest for the invitations that you landed on when you fell into Wonderland. Sometimes these invitations will be obvious and in front of your eyes, sometimes you will need to really have a look around the scene in front of you, and yet other times they will require solving some of those aforementioned puzzles.
Down the Rabbit Hole Really Cool Stuff
The graphics are beautifully rendered, and the overall design of the game world is breathtaking. You will feel like you are really there, exploring Wonderland and helping the girl find her pet.
You can really zoom in on the scenes and interact with all kinds of things. Pick up the little bunnies, tap the trees, or touch the lights. There are lots of little cool easter eggs to explore.
Who Will Enjoy Playing Down the Rabbit Hole VR?
Down the Rabbit Hole is not rated. I imagine it would be E for Everone. There are fantasy themes but nothing too risky as it is based on a popular children’s fairytale.
This is a great game to show people new to VR, older or younger players. Anyone who enjoys adventure games with classic puzzle-solving elements.
What Games are similar to Down the Rabbit Hole?
Down the Rabbit hole is similar to old-school classic point-and-click adventures like Maniac Mansion or Secret of Monkey Island. Similar VR Games would be Sam and Max, Madrid Noir, and Flow Weaver.
How long is Down the Rabbit Hole?
The entire game can be completed in about 2 – 3 hours. Perhaps a bit longer if you are looking to collect every single one of the missing invitations.
This is a downside as there is little replay value and it is a pretty short experience.
Can you play Down the Rabbit Hole Sitting Down?
Yes! Down the Rabbit Hole can be played sitting down. Due to the root navigation and joystick movement, this is a great experience for those looking for seated VR games. You do not need a large play space or room movement.
Does Down the Rabbit Hole cause motion sickness?
Down the Rabbit Hole has NO in-game movement. You will control the girl character with a joystick and you will move around in the game with the root-grabbing system. This means that there is very little risk of motion sickness.
Down the Rabbit Hole is Comfortable for Motion Sickness which makes it a great choice for those worried about VR motion sickness.
