Looks like the Resident Evil ex-producer is at it again with American publisher Activision. As if the Destiny producer daddy can tear itself away from the last city on Earth to grant Platinum Games another shot at making 80s nostalgia cool. This time, with the Eastman-Laird property, Teenage Mutant Ninja< Turtles/em>. Transformers: Devastation wasn’t sweet enough for these guys, so Platinum Games is taking us back to New York with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants In Manhattan, so sayeth the book of Brazillian ratings system.
Outside of that, there’s hardly any news on whether we’re looking at a similar case where the developer will show which direction we will be seeing from the PG team. 2014 film reboot?! Nicktoons? 2003 series? 2007 movie with a near star-studded voiceover cast? 80s cartoon? 90s trilogy? heck, dare I say it – Shawick Era Turtles? Yeah, we got nothing. The ratings gave nothing. We’re pretty much square one here with TMNT’s upcoming title. PC, PS and X-Box systems will be grabbing a slice with the heroes in a half shell’s newest adventure. Based on previous history, there could be just a beat ’em up waiting to happen. But from a page of ex-Clover Studios’ history, we’d be kidding ourselves to believe that it’s going to be straight drawn simplistic combat from them. The title alone isn’t hinting at anything we’ve previously seen. Unlike Devastation, this might be the show that Platinum Games can use to redeem itself from its’ solo outings of mass carnage and over-the-top shenanigans.
A TMNT title without co-op play would not strike well with even the most oldest of vets to come out of the 8 bit era. My money is on either the original 80s aesthetic, 2003 reboot, or the new Nicktoons exploits for the so urce. We’ll get our usual suspects – Shredder, Krang(in some form), Baxter Stockman, Bebop, Rocksteady, and probably others to make the atmosphere awesome. I’d look forward to the QTEs and WTF moments from Platinum Games to come out in full force. The turtles have had a favorable past in electronic entertainment with some of the most faithful arcade ports thanks to Konami and several other houses. Mostly, the turtles would be coming from the Metal Gear producer. To see Activision take the lead again is a quite the change in pace compared to the three decades of a different story. Who better to know ninjas than a team from the land that gave us ninjas?! Obviously, a Japanese company creating the next TMNT game is a great look.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind a 6 man co-op either from Platinum Games, based on the Turtles. Turtles, Casey Jones, and Splinter. That’s worth the stolen pizza pies to watch. Jones nor Splinter have been playable characters in the past titles. Why not the crazy vigilante or the ninjitsu master with a super tail? Enough speculation. Platinum Games themselves have yet to say a word nor Activision. Someone will talk before 2016, though. No doubt about that. Online interactions could also mean anything. Again, still hoping. Yes, Platinum Games is making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.
